Chances are, if it is the couple’s 40th or 50th wedding anniversary, they don’t want or need anything for their home. A party, where guests are told not to bring gifts, is a common way to celebrate the occasion, but sky lanterns can take a common party and turn it into a memorable event that could turn into a new family tradition.
For the anniversary party, you will need a colorful Chinese lanterns for every year the couple has been married. These lanterns come in a wide range of shapes and colors, so they can be coordinated to the party theme easily. At a set time, after it gets dark, ask the guests to come outside (unless it is an outside event) and the adults can light the lanterns. The anniversary couple can watch a beautiful, symbolic lantern float slowly into the night sky, as their guest enjoy the display. Even neighbors who were not invited will see the lantern display at night.
This is a wonderful, yet economical way to celebrate a momentous wedding anniversary. For those family members who wanted to get a gift, they could be asked to sponsor a lantern instead. This allows even the youngest members of a family to participate, without asking them for a lot of money. What could be a better way to end a party than with a stunning display of twinkling lanterns rising heavenward.
